East Street Arts is an artist's organisation based in Leeds. They offer studio space for all creative mediums, ages and origins.
There was no lack of space when it came to the studio/exhibition areas. However the rest of the building seemed up be almost forgotten about and parts had fallen into disrepair and was altogether unloved.
This was when they approached our course, and proposed a redesign of the communal areas of ESA.
My concept for this design was 'A Charming Temple of Kitsch'.
I wanted to challenge peoples perceptions of the kitsch genre, and instead of making a giant collection of tat, create a space where each of the resident artists could express themselves in a collective space.
My design features lots of areas suitable for displaying the artists current work, as well as eye catching features to make the space more fitting for a creative community.
